The LIFEstockProtect project (LIFE19 NAT/AT/000889) is funded by the LIFE program of the European Union promoted.

Goal

LIFEstockProtect is an international project co-financed by the EU and is committed to implementing livestock protection measures to enable the coexistence of humans, grazing animals and wild animals. To this end, agricultural organizations have developed a joint project with scientists, nature conservationists, livestock protection experts and other actors from Austria, Bavaria and South Tyrol.

The Austrian Center for Bear, Wolf, Lynx and LIFEstockProtect

The beginnings of the project go back to spring 2018. The Austrian Bear, Wolf and Lynx Center joined the project consortium in winter 2019/2020 following a decision by the members. The actual project application was submitted in February 2020, with the participation of the Austrian Bear, Wolf and Lynx Center. Approval by the EU followed a revision in spring 2020, and the project started on September 1, 2020.

The focus of the Austrian Centre is on the areas

Training of livestock protection advisors (content and specific training)
Basics and standards for the breeding and use of livestock guardian dogs
Harmonization of the regulations on compensation payments, legislation on herd protection and financing models
Lobbying for the use of RDP (Rural Development) funds for prevention measures or livestock protection
